Gilbert Melendez to make fight promoter debut with help from Scott Coker

Former Bellator MMA president, StrikeForce creator Scott Coker is back in the promotional business, at least in some capacity. Tech CU Arena which is in San Jose and home to the AHL San Jose Barracuda hockey team announced that it would be hosting a new Mixed Combat promotion called “Fight night at the Tech”–which lists Scott Coker as a producer and will take place on May 18th in San Jose.

Other details have not been shared, however sources say it will be a mix combat event that will feature seasoned veterans and rising prospects. Coker who decided not to partner with the Professional Fighters League following their purchase of Bellator MMA in late 2023 will be making his first venture back into combat sports promotions with this event.

Gilbert Melendez took to X, formerly Twitter and posted a picture with Scott Coker along with the caption, “After spending years fighting, commentating, analyzing, coaching, I’m excited to expand my contribution to Bay Area MMA.  I am teaming up with one of the greatest promoters in combat sports history @scottcoker to bring you Fight Night at Tech May 18th at Tech CU in San Jose

Cyborg who has not competed in MMA since Oct. 2023 prior tot he PFL merger with Bellator MMA posted that she is expected to be in attendance to support the event and meet fans.  Cris Cyborg will be returning to Boxing as the main event of Green Bay Fight Night April 27th in Wisconsin due to the inability to compete in MMA.
