Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez just seems to continue finding reasons not to fight David The Mexican Monster Benavidez despite him being the #1 mandatory for nearly two years. Canelo who will fight May 4th against fellow mexican fighter Jaime Munguia rather than stepping into the ring with Benavidez most recently claimed he wants 150-200 million dollars to secure the fight claiming Benavidez brings nothing to the table aside from an extra 25 pounds fight night. Benavidez Sr went on to say they would accept a rehydration clause if that was what worried Canelo about the fight.
Jose Benavidez Sr told BoxingScene that his son had accepted the 5 million dollar offer and then Alvarez disappeared. ”I think in their mind, they thought we were going to ask for more money, so they can have an excuse,’ Benavidez told BoxingScene. Jose Benavidez Sr is the head boxing coach for Cris Cyborg who is scheduled to fight April 27th in Green Bay Wisconsin. Tickets for that fight are currently on sale here.
David Benavidez has stated his plans to stop waiting for Canelo and his intent to move up in weight to take the #1 mandatory tan 175lbs with the hopes of fighting the winner of Artur Beterbiev-Dmitry Bivol fight. Benavidez would essentially make himself the mandatory at both the 168lbs and 175lbs divisions.
