
Frankie Edgar suffered a loss at UFC 222 after accepting a last minute fight against the tough Brian Ortega alongside the main event of Cris Cyborg Vs. Yana Kunitskaya. The bout was suppose to be a title fight for Brian Ortega against Max Holloway however Holloway was injured last minute, so Edgar accepted the bout against the dangerous Brian Ortega.

Even though the fight with Edgar and Ortega was 6 weeks ago, Frankie Edgar wanted to get right back to action, and faced Cub Swanson who has been a perennial contender at 145lbs for almost a decade. Swanson who also lost his last fight, against Brian Ortega at UFC FN 123 recently re-signed with the UFC promotion and came into the fight looking to avenge a loss to Edgar from 2014.
fans where treated to a competitive fight. The first round featured Frankie Edgar controlling the pace landing several strong strikes. Cub Swanson had a small cut open over his eye and landed several strong kicks of his own as the round closed. Round 2 started very similar to round one with Frankie Edgar pushing Cub Swanson back in the cage and Swanson trying to stay elusive with his footwork. In round 2 Frankie was able to open a cut under the eye of Frankie Edgar. Round 3 saw Cub Swanson continue to stay on the outside as Frankie Edgar kept the pressure and forward momentum constant. Edgar picked up the decision win after 3 rounds, landing more significant strikes, and having a higher strike total. Cub Swanson however did stop the takedowns of Edgar. Edgar won via a 3 round decision
