2012 Olympic Boxer Jose Ramirez improved his record to 22-0 with 16 ko’s to remain uneaten against a very durable Amir Imam. Winning a lopsided 12 round decision Jose Ramirez took the vacant World Boxing Council Light Welterweight title Saturday in a co promoted card between Top Rank and Don King held at the Madison Square Garden in historic New York.
ESPN broadcasted the fight, though ratings are not available yet early indicators are that it was an average performing bevent for the channel. Imam who is 27 years old won a couple of rounds during the fight however his low guard continued to be a problem as Ramirez out worked him with tagging shots. Imam did a good job to survive the fight who was close to finishing the fight a few times with big shots, but was unable to secure the final strikes.
Now 26 years old Ramirez is the WBC 140lbs champion with the win. Possible fights for Ramirez include Regis Prograis, Victor Postol, Josh Taylor. This was the second Saturday in a row that ESPN broadcasted Boxing fights and they will be continuing this trend with the recent investment into Top Rank promotions.
