Fans who were wanting to see Khabib Nurmagomedov fight Conor McGregor in Russia are going to have to wait, atleast a little longer. The UFC officially announced they will be making their promotional debut in the country on September 15th when the show arrives at the Olympic Arena in Moscow for UFC Fight Night Moscow.
The stadium which sits over 10,000 fans was a built in 1980 as part of the summer olympics and has hosted such events as the Davis Cup finals, Madonna, and even Pink Floyd. Tickets are going to go on sale June 1st, which is a Friday, and the event is expected to be a quick sellout. Since the trip to Russia is going to be a fight night and not a PPV fans can expect Khabib Nurmagomedov will not appear on the card.
Fighters expected to compete include Alexander Volkov who recently defeated former UFC Champion Fabricio Werdum and surging prospect Zabit Magomedsharipov who is riding a 3 fight winning streak. The fight card will continue to develop over the next few weeks, as David Shaw said “Russia is a key part of UFC’s international expansion strategy, the demand from our fans to bring a live event to Russia has been overwhelming, and with the fvast potential this market holds for us, we knew this was the perfect time to bring UFC Fight Night to Moscow.”
