UFC Champion Cris Cyborg lobbied for a fight against Amanda Nunes last December after defeating Holly Holm. Cyborg originally requested the fight with Nunes for UFC 226 as the Superfight between Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic was already scheduled to take place during International Fight Week.
When the UFC needed a last minute title fight to headline UFC 222, Cyborg stepped up on less than 3 weeks notice to take on any challenger. Having already listened to the Nunes callouts, Cyborg attempted to make the Nunes fight at UFC 222, however Nunes declined the fight.
