The toughest tournament in sports, just got a bit tougher according to PFL head hancho Donn Davis who took to social media to let fans know that the 2025 PFL MMA Tournament will now feature the addition of ‘elbows’ into the rule set. Previously due to the close proximity of the PFL Tournament fights, the use of elbows had not be utilized as the thought was that it would lead to more cut type injuries and inevitably effective the ability for fighters to continue in the tournament format. Similar to PRIDE FC the PFL Tournament did not use the unified MMA strikes that included elbows.
While the PFL introduced elbows during the PFL Super Fights PPV event, the news that the rule change will effect the 2025 PFL season tournament was made public on X as PFL CEO and Founder DOnn Davis announced “New Year…New Adjustments YOU asked for ELBOWS PFLMMA is giving you Elbows! All elbows. All fights. All the time. The PFL has yet to make their 2025 season plans public however fans seem excited with the news with over 70,000 views on the post.
Cyborg who captured the PFL Featherweight championship with a 5 round decision over former 2x PFL Tournament Champion Larissa Pacheco this past October in Saudi Arabia to become the most watched WMMA fight of 2025 on the Professional Fighters League Youtube Channel had this to say about the rule change; “Elbows are good. PFL has great refs around the world and I think the more unified the rules of MMA are the easier it is to grow the sport and have it grow internationally.”
Cyborg does not currently have an MMA bout for 2025 announced, however she is expected to main event Crypto Fight Night Feb. 20th in Hong Kong.
