Colby Covington’s career seems to have crawled to a standstill when it comes to activity, and it appeared that ring rust and lack of cage time is starting to show with his UFC 296 performance. While the fight week build up was filled with the normal Colby Covington banter and bravado, many fans felt he crossed the line when he made comments about Leon Edwards father who had been murdered when he was young.
All that trash talk resulted in very little results come fight night at Edwards easily controlled the distance, defended the takedowns, and established his own takedowns during the fight to showcase a world class performance winning 4 out of 5 of the rounds on all 3 of the judges score cards. Colby’s leg was visibly bruised and swollen following the 5 round battering Edwards gave it.
Leon Edwards has now won 13 fights in a row atying Islam Makhachev for second longest active streak in the UFC. Edwards has not lost since 2015. Colby is now 2-3 in his last 5 with his wins coming over Jorge Masvidal and Tyrone Woodley two athletes who are no longer on the UFC active roster.
