It was 2016, when Josh Barnett first got notified by USADA of his flagged sample. The result of the positive test for a banned substance was career threatening as Barnett was facing a multiple year suspension if found guilty.
Instead of accepting the penalty, Barnett a former UFC Heavyweight Champion decided to take his case to arbitration. The independent arbitration ended up being the right choice! At the conclusion of the investigation and the review of all of the information, Josh Barnett was proven not to be a cheat and was only given a public reprimand by USADA.
The professional wrestler, and MMA Champion went to Twitter this weekend to release his first official statement since the news that USADA had cleared him. Josh Barnett was able to show that he didn’t intentionally consume performance enhancing drugs, and that he did not knowingly cheat in a way to gain an advantage.
The 40 year old fighter will now look to get back into the ring for the first time since Dec. of 2016 when he beat long time Heavyweight contender Andrei Arlovski. Barnett was able to beat Andrei Arlvoski via 3rd round submission at UFC Humburg.
I proved my innocence as I stated from the beginning and now I can look towards getting back in the ring in the neat future.
The time I lost though can never be regained. It should not havr had to come to all of this.
Ever onwards… https://t.co/HfeUrteKjA
