While the official judges did not give the boxing match to Francis Ngannou, it seems that most fans feel like Francis Ngannou lost the actual “fight” despite the results of the “match.” The former UFC Champion (he never lost that title) challenged himself against a man that many consider the greatest Heavyweight Boxing Champion of this era in Tyson Fury.
A noticeably heavier Tyson Fury showed up and started with a fast pace before realizing that Francis Ngannou was not going to be going anywhere. Ngannou stood his ground and tried to counter many of the strikes from Tyson Fury landing with good success to the point that Tyson Fury was dropped in the 3rd round of the fight. At the conclusion of the fight one judge had given the bout to Francis Ngannou 95-94 on his scorecard while the remaining two judges scored the fight 96-93 and 95-94 giving Tyson Fury the Split Decision victory and allowing him to retain his Boxing Championship belts.
The event which was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia featured a grand prodcution showcasing many of the legends of the sport amongst the crowd. While there did not seem to be a female combat sports presence, with the initiation of PFLW fans have to wonder if the world’s “New fight capitol” could be planning an event featuring female athletes as well. Following the fight Cyborg teased a potential boxing cross over against Katie Taylor which has garnered over a quarter of a million views on ‘X’ formerly Twitter since the #FuryNgannou fight.
