Dominick Cruz was a legend of the sport for the lighter weights. A pioneer in the WEC and UFC, he officially announced his retirement as a professional Mixed Martial Arts fighter ending a career that will most likely place him amongst the legends of the UFC HOF.
With more than a decade as one of the top Bantamweights in the sport, Cruz revealed that he was injured in the leadup to his Feb 22nd fight against Rob Font a bout that was being billed as his retirement fight. Cruz who turns 40 in March officially took to social media to announce that with the injury he is officially calling it a career without a final walk to the octagon.
“To the fans worldwide, I have poured every ounce of myself into this sport for the last 25 years,” I was really hopeful for one final fight but unfortunately two shoulder dislocations in 8 months calls an end to this guy’s career.” Cruz was WEC champion during the merger to the UFC and later recorded two successful title defenses before he had a 3 year injury sideline him. with a final carer record of 24-4 Dominick Cruz officially went 7-3 inside the UFC and 7-1 inside the WEC cage making him one of the most successfully bantamweights ever.
