Cris Cyborg joins NHL LA King’s Spanish Broadcast during first hockey game appearance
Bellator MMA fans cheered loud as their Female MMA Champion was shown on the Jumbotron during the LA King’s Overtime victory against the Chicago Blackhawks. Invited as a guest of the LA King’s by Spanish Radio play by play announcer Francisco Rivera, Cris Cyborg was given a VIP experience of the fights including access to the Chairman’s lounge which featured a full catered buffet and an open bar for fans throughout the game. Sitting closely behind the glass, Cyborg had an opportunity to watch most of the game right off the ice before being invited to join Francisco Rivera in the commentator booth.

While Kevin Fiala scored with 1.4 seconds left in the game to give the King’s a 2-1 victory over the Blackhawks, Cyborg was in the booth early for a goal that was eventually called off because of a penalty. The winning goal came from a pass from Phillip Danault who got his rebound after his shot was blocked. Also during the game Danault scored his 100th NHL point becoming the 7th California born player in the NHL to reach that mark. With the victory the King’s are now 9-6-1 and have won 3 straight to go 5-1-1 in their past 7 games.

Cyborg who recently won her first boxing fight to capture the FMS Women’s Championship belt in Brazil had this to say about the experience, “I loved getting a chance to experience the game of Hockey Live, it is so much faster and more intense when watching the match in person than it is on TV. The entire LA King’s staff was amazing and there was such an awesome community of fans attending the game I will definitely be back again!” While Brazil had Robyn Regehr who played 15 seasons in the NHL the sport is continuing to grow in popularity in Latin America and the possibility of more Brazilian born NHL players continued to increase every year.
