Bellator MMA and the commitment that their athletes have to the community is unlike any other Mixed Martial Arts promotion in the world. Earlier this week we brought you the amazing story of Title contender Cat Zingano donating a 10,000$ scholarship for overcoming of loss, and now another star athlete on the Bellator 300 fight card has committed to creating community change by raising over 2 million dollars for the Maui residents.
Ilima-Lei Macfarlane is a Hawaiian Native who created the fundraiser on Instagram that has now reached over 2.6 million dollars worth of donations. While these funds have not officially been released by Meta according to a recent statement from Ilima Lei, her charity Nã Wahine Toa Foundation has raised over a quarter of a million dollars of funding outside of the facebook donations which is already being used to ensure the families in Lahaina will get an opportunity to return back to their Hawaiian lands.
Ilima-Lei Macfarlane will be fighting Liz Carmouche for the Bellator MMA Flyweight 125lbs Championship. Both Liz and Ilima Lei are former training partners and friends. The Co Main event will feature Cris Cyborg against Cat Zingano in a matchup of two of MMA’s greatest female fighters. If you are able to make it to San Diego, Oct 7th be sure to get YOUR TICKETS NOW.
