Algerian boxer Imane Khelif finally spoke out at this years Olympics and the message was clear, “Stop the Bullying”. Khelif has found herself in the center of a global firestorm of controversy over what gender eligibility criteria is and should be during the Paris Olympics.
Along with Taiwan’s Lin Yu-Ting the two women have been subjected to online harassment, social ridicule and more despite the International Olympic Committee coming forward to say they meet their eligibility requirements to compete as women. It was the IBA which brought this issue to surface last week when they claimed both females failed gender eligibility tests, however the IOC and others have raised concerns on the validity of those tests.

While there still seems to be a certain amount of misinformation being circulated online, Cyborg found herself involved in the controversial subject sharing content with the caption, “We must protect the integrity of women’s sports”. Cyborg who has long been a target of social campaigns maintains her position that women sports needs to be protected by allowing women the opportunity to compete against other females. Citing an NBC article, Cyborg referred to XY chromosomes as a DNA identifier between females and males when she shared her comments. “I would like to apologize to my fans for sharing misinformation as it does not appear the original medical tests cited in the article shared by NBC News were conducted and for that my shares, comments, on social media only helped create more misinformation, in the future I will be more careful about sharing these types of materials.”
