There is a big secret inside the sport of Mixed Martial Arts which is the practice of weight cutting, or temporarily dehydrating the body to make a competition weight, before completing a dehydration protocol that sometimes allows the athlete to increase their overall body weight by 10,15, even sometimes 20% by the time they fight.
While the UFC previously featured a women’s featherweight, the promotion does not currently hold any champion in the division since the retirement of Amanda Nunes. Perez who is competing internationally in Paris had to endure a long flight, and the weight cut had to be completed with travel interruption.
Weighing in at 136.5 Perez missed the 1 pound allowance on the bantamweight division by 500 grams. The bout is still set to proceed however now Perez will forfeit an additional 20% of her purse as penalty for the .5 pounds.
